About the Artist

CindyBrotenCynthia Reasor Broten

Cindy has been a ceramics artist for over twelve years. She prefers handbuilding techniques using slabs, coils and molds. Her move into mosaic work was a natural progression as she combines several techniques in tile making to create her unique wall pieces. Cindy finds inspiration in nature, whether it be the seashore where she grew up, the garden (her other passion), or hiking. Her love of nature and flowers also led to her interest in floral design. And avid gardener, she added floral work to her business in 2010. Her expertise is in permanent silk florals; however she often provides her clients with beautiful fresh arrangements for their entertaining needs.

Prior to working in clay and flowers, Cindy operated her own jewelry design business for 10 years, working in glass and metals. Her one of a kind pieces combined lampworked, blown and fused glass in unusual combinations.

Cindy received her BA in economics from The College of William & Mary and spent her earlier years in the corporate retail world. After starting a family and leaving corporate life, she began to pursue her dreams of becoming an artist. Creating is part of her soul and not a day is complete until she has pursued something creative …whether it is redesigning a plot in her garden, arranging flowers for a client’s dinner party or rolling out that slab of clay for a new design.

Artist Statement

The natural world inspires me everywhere I look, whether it be the seashore with its constantly changing tide and wondrous shells and sea life to discover at low tide, the emerging of a new flower bud as it opens to the sun, or the quietness of a walk in the woods as I listen to the wind and watch the movement of the leaves in the trees above me. Creating is a part of my soul and a day is not complete until I have pursued something creative. My present vision in my art is to capture the beauty and wonder of what I see and share it with others.
